Strange day.....

So today, we were in the hospital taking care of one patient each. I was assigned a patient yesterday who I had to "research"... (Find out the medications he was taking, why he was in the hospital, all that has happened since he has been in the hospital, etc.) Well this am at 6:45 when I got there, the patient had gone home!!! So I was assigned a new patient. This patient was great! She was very independent.. could go to the bathroom on her own, was sitting in a chair when I got there, and later walked down the hall with physical therapy!
So, today we all had our own patients. Well around the 11:00 hour, the cleaning lady came by the room I was sitting and charting about my patient and she asked if either me or this other girl sitting there had room number 23. We said "NO?" and she said, well she needs something. So I said, what does she need? She said, I don't know but I told the nurses too and no body is going to check on her. So I thought to myself, well someone will check on her in a sec who is assigned to her.
Fast forward about 15 mins. I was standing in the hallway and one of my classmates says "23 threw up everywhere and so and so and so and so were in there cleaning her up. Well a couple of minutes later, I hear someone say "SHE'S NOT BREATHING!" So, we all went down the hall including my partner from last time who went in the room to assist. We all stood in the hall and watched as another nurse came in the room and yelled "CALL THE CODE!!!!!!!!" So there we stood as the code team came running down the hall, about 12 people I am guessing.... including Dr.'s nurses and respiratory therapists. They worked on her for probably about 30 minutes, to no avail. She did not make it.
Some people thought at first that she died bc she choked on her vomit, but then they said they thought it was a brain bleed. We don't know as student nurses, because we are on the bottom of the chain...

SO that was my day. I am really ok, it was just scary. They said they hadn't had a code since April and I happened to be there on the day they had one!!!
